Huarocondo has one clinic which is the place that everyone goes for medical help. It mostly serves as a emergency room. Although they have a delivery rooms since many times have to attend emergency deliveries.
Huarocondo currently has a medical clinic that was built on top of water springs. For this reason, the humidity and water have started to get into the walls there is mold everywhere. We are in the process of consulting with an expert (engineer) so we can determine if this situation can be solved or if it is better to move the clinic to a more suitable place.
Information about number of children/adults at facility: The medical clinic mainly serves as an emergency room and for walk ins looking to consult with a doctor. Patients do not stay overnight, since there are adequate facilities (beds, equipment). In case of a real emergency such as surgery, they transport the patients to the nearest hospital 45 minutes away. The clinic currently helps about 20 patients per day.
Primary needs: The clinic is attended by a doctor, a nurse and a Midwife. It primarily serves as an emergency room and primary care. In addition to the remodeling of the clinic, which we plan to undertake upon completion of our engineering studies, the primary need is medical help for the town’s seniors citizens. The government provides limited coverage, and no coverage after the age of 60. These people are in desperate need of prescriptions for mainly respiratory problems. Our goal is to have volunteers bring medicines to the seniors and to spend time with them.
