Shelter of the Church of Huarocondo
Location: The priest in charge of the Temple of Huarocondo has started to build a shelter for small children that live far from the town and therefore far from the school.
Information about number of children: This Shelter was recently inugurate and is currently used by the priest and some children. The goal is to eventually being able to house approximately 50 children.
Primary needs: These children will normally have to walk 3-4 hours per day to go to school. The idea is to build this shelter to provide these children with a place to live and eat from Monday to Friday so they can go to school during the week. Most of these children live in the rural communities outside Huarocondo. The shelter is located behind the Temple of Huarocondo. The shelter is not finished yet; there are 6 bedrooms, one large meeting room, a kitchen and 3 restrooms. Their primary needs are many. First, we need to finish the roofs for all the rooms, finish the walls, and install floors. We will also be making substantial infrastructure improvements by installing doors, windows and installing electrical connections and toilets for the bathrooms. As we complete each room, we will also be painting and providing new bedroom furniture (about 4-5 bunkbeds in each room and a dresser or closet in each room). The meeting room has fortunately been finished and just needs painting and furniture. The goal is to use this room as a place where children can play, study after school or participate in afternoon activities. The director of the school will donate their old chairs to this project after replacing with new ones (as mentioned before the ones they have are too small for children in the 4th,5th and 6th grades). We will repair the school chairs so we can use them here. We are planning to build and install a cabinet, shelving and a black board for this room, so they can use this room as a classroom. We will also need other supplies (crayons, paper, notebooks, etc).
Future Needs: The shelter is planning to offer food for the children. They will need a stove, refrigerator and kitchen supplies (plates, pots, frying pan, and more).
